Hissar fortress, the former residence of the Bek, governor of the Emir of Bukhara, is located 26 km west of the capital. The fortress with walls 1 m thick, with loopholes for guns and cannons was guarded by the guards. Inside were a pool and garden. Opposite the fortress, the market square roared with a caravanserai and many shops. Opposite the entrance to the fortress, an old madrasah of the 17th century was preserved, in which the Koran was studied. Nearby is a new madrasah of the XVIII-XIX centuries. Here the mausoleum of the XVI-XVII centuries. The Gissar fortress has been turned into a historical and cultural reserve, an open-air museum.
