Surrounded by dense forests, a small quiet town of Kostroma is located on the banks of the Volga river, connecting Asia with the North of Europe. Near the monastery there is the Museum of wooden architecture (Ipatievskaya Sloboda), which contains ancient architectural exhibits decorated with unique carvings.
Along with the Ipatiev monastery, one of the most important monuments of Kostroma architecture Is the Church of the Resurrection on the Debra, known for its legends and frescoes of the early XVII century with images on the theme of Russian Turmoil.
