Day 1 | Irkutsk | Arrival in Irkutsk. Transfer to the hotel. Accommodation. City Tour including a visit to the Cathedral of the Holy Sign. Apart from ornate and rich iconostasis, the cathedral is famous for its graveyard where you will see the graves of the Decembrists Mukhanov, Beschasnov, Trubetskaya and the Russian Columbus Shelekhov. Lunch. Then we will proceed to the Museum of the Decembrists. The museum is housed in a mansion belonging to one of the leaders of Decembrist revolutionaries - these were Russian aristocracy who were banished to Siberia after their ill-fated attempt in December 1825 to overthrow the Russian Tsar in favor of a Constitutional regime. The museum really gives off an aura of 18th century Russia. Dinner. |
Day 2 | Listvyanka | Breakfast. In the morning- departure to Listvyanka village on the shores of Lake Baikal (70 km. from Irkutsk). By the way we will visit Taltsy - museum of traditional Siberian architecture in the open air. Lunch in Listvyanka. After lunch excursion to the Baikal museum, where you can see flora and fauna of the lake and also unique Baikal Seal – nerpa. After we will hike up to Chersky Rock where you can take panoramic pictures of Baikal from above. Visit to the local market with its typical saleswomen of omul, salmon-like fish indigenous to Lake Baikal. In the evening return to Irkutsk. Night in the hotel in Listvyanka. Dinner. |
Day 3 | Irkutsk | Breakfast. Check out. Departure to Baikal Port (by ferry). Where we shall start our trip down the famous Circum-Baikal Rialway, which was built more than 100 years ago. Circum-Baikal is a quite picturesque route to enjoy lake Baikal. We are offering one day tour on this beautiful railway track. There are a lot of glorious constructed tunnels and bridges along the way, making the Circum-Baikal a monument in itself. The total lengths of its 39 tunnels is 7 km and the rail road is 86 km long. Lunch – on board the train. In the evening – arrival to the railway station in Irkutsk. Transfer to the hotel. Dinner. |
