In accordance with a bilateral agreement between Malaysia and Russia, visa requirements for Malaysian citizens travelling to Russia are being streamlined. Currently, Malaysian citizens are eligible to apply for a unified electronic visa, which permits a single entry stay of up to 30 days. This procedure does not require an invitation letter and is conducted entirely online, with a decision generally issued within approximately four days. Nevertheless, a more substantial change is forthcoming. Negotiations concerning a full mutual visa-free regime are at an advanced stage, and both parties intend to conclude the agreement by the end of 2026. Upon conclusion, Malaysian citizens will be permitted to visit Russia for short trips without any visa formalities whatsoever.
