Krasnoperekopsky district of Yaroslavl is famous not only for the fact that it was the birthplace of the famous female cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova, but also the Peter and Paul Park, which is part of the Yaroslavl large manufactory. The oldest Park in the city is now experiencing a rebirth thanks to initiative groups of young people who seek to revive its former greatness and awaken the interest of local residents to its history.
Historical vicissitudes of the Park
In the first half of the 18th century the rich family Zatrapeznov was founded one of the biggest manufactories on the territory of the Russian Empire – the Yaroslavl manufactory. On its territory there were textile and paper complexes. For their smooth operation along the stream of the Kavardakovsky stream dams were built, which eventually led to the formation of a cascade of picturesque ponds, each of which at that time performed its function: one washed clothes and bathed in the other caught fish, and the rest became the decoration of the Peter and Paul Park.
The Park got its name after the construction of the Church of the Holy apostles Peter and Paul in the early 40s of the 18th century.
Since the 20th century, the manufactory has lost its importance as a center of production – it has become a quiet, cozy holiday complex. After the revolution, it was nationalized, and the temple became a club of pioneers.
At the time, the estate and the Park of luxury were comparable to the capital's mansions, so Catherine II even temporarily lived here, being in Yaroslavl. Smooth paved alleys were decorated with fountains and beautiful statues. Special grandeur is given to the Park by the still preserved mighty trees: oaks, poplars and Linden.
Walking through the territory of the Peter and Paul Park, you can enjoy the incredible beauty of the scenery and make beautiful photos. Especially noteworthy is the old school, reflected in the mirror waters of the pond, elegant spire of the sky-blue temple, which is visible from several points, the ruins of brick buildings, which are about to absorb the lush greenery. Now the frescoes of the temple of Peter and Paul, after the revolution, covered with whitewash, restore, so anyone can enter the temple and admire their beauty.
