Immediately after Andrei Bogolyubsky declared the city of Vladimir the capital of the Principality, he began to build the Assumption Cathedral, which was to become the main temple of North-Eastern Russia. The first stone of the future great temple was laid in 1158.
How to build the assumption Cathedral in Vladimir
For the construction was chosen the most advantageous place of the city - the edge of the cliff, where an impressive overhang and ruled over the city, its dome was visible from anywhere in Vladimir.
Since the city was in political and Church rivalry Kiev Bogolyubsky was going to present the assumption Cathedral as a place of independent metropolis. Therefore, for the construction of the temple were invited not only local but also foreign masters – from Germany, Greece, Rome. All this gives a good reason to call the assumption Cathedral in Vladimir an architectural object of world importance.
The construction of the Cathedral was expensive-the Prince to allocate a tenth of all his income and it was noticeable. The temple was built of white stone, its main head is covered with pure gold.
The architecture of the Cathedral itself was somewhat innovative, which further determined the development of the architecture of the entire Moscow state. 
In particular, the facades of the assumption Cathedral, decorated with carved masks and compositions, gave impetus to the white stone carving of all ancient temples.
When the construction was completed and the forests were removed, the residents of Vladimir were deeply shocked by the scale and beauty of their new Cathedral. It was decorated with gold and silver, precious and semi-precious stones, exquisite carvings, could accommodate up to two thousand people at the same time.
During its existence, the Cathedral has repeatedly become a victim of various disasters: it was burned, repeatedly robbed, but still survived. After another act of vandalism, he again signed the famous masters, among whom was the legendary Andrei Rublev.
A priceless relic of the assumption Cathedral
At different times, the Cathedral kept priceless objects of Russian art – made Ruble elements of the composition "the Last judgment", Vladimir icon of the Mother of God, which today is part of the collection of the Tretyakov gallery.
In the necropolis of the Cathedral are the relics of the great Russian princes (Andrey Bogolyubsky, Yury Gromov and others), here was buried in Vladimir metropolitans and bishops.
