Suzdal Kremlin

The oldest part of the city is part of the Vladimir-Suzdal historical, architectural and art Museum-reserve. According to the results of archaeological excavations it was determined that the Kremlin has existed since the X century ad. Initially, the fortification with log walls and towers served as a monastery for the Prince, his retinue and Bishop with numerous entourage. The original buildings of pine burned to the ground in a fire in 1719.

This complex was formed over three centuries, the base refers to the XV century. The chambers served as a dwelling for the supremacy of Suzdal clergy. Under the Soviet Union there was organized a Museum, functioning to this day. The main hall is represented by the impressive size of the Cross chamber, the height of the vaults of which is 9 meters. The interior in the European style – high window openings without columns and arch. Throughout the building there are furnaces lined with tiles. The walls are decorated with icons and portraits of the XVIII century Royal and religious persons. The cross chamber is furnished with a table, chairs, preserved from the XVIII century. In the center stands the chair of the Bishop, in the cabinets and chests kept stationery.

On the territory of the Kremlin erected two St. Nicholas Church-one in the Western part, the other in the East. Both buildings belong to the XVIII century. St. Nicholas summer Church is located in the South-Eastern part of the Kremlin at the eponymous travel gate. This is one of the first temples of Suzdal, built after the fire of 1719, which destroyed the fortifications of the Kremlin and the city. The structure is made in a simple manner, of stone, covered with whitewash, the perimeter structure is arranged arcanery zone. The form is crowned with a bulbous dome set on a sophisticated drum. The peak of the building is an octagonal bell tower.

In the opposite part of the Kremlin, on the West side, there is a wooden St. Nicholas Church, built in the middle of the XVIII century in the village of Glotovo, Vladimir region. In 1960, according to the plan of tourism development, the Church was transported to Suzdal, where it was restored and restored. The Western part was chosen due to the fact that there is a minimum of stone architecture, wooden structure harmoniously fit into the local landscape. Virgin Mary-Christmas CathedralThe Church represents the ancient Russian architecture-a chopped crate. Above the roof, covered with wooden tiles, ploughshares, stands an onion on a skate.

One of the oldest parts of the city. Over the millennia of existence, the Church was modernized several times, contributed to the ageing, the attack of the army of the Kazan Tatars, fires. The lower part of the structure, including arcanery zone, preserved since XIII century, the upper refers to XVI. The base is made of white stone. In the interior are preserved frescoes of the XIII century. The temple is protected by the UNESCO world Fund and is one of the oldest representatives of ancient Russian architecture.
