The monument to the submerged ships can be seen near the embankment, named after Primorsky Boulevard. Another convenient landmark – Bay "Sevastopol". Erected in 1905, the monument is considered the main symbol of Sevastopol, the most famous military monument. In Soviet times, his image even adorned the city coat of arms.
History
The construction reminds of the dramatic event that occurred during the Crimean war. For the sake of saving Sevastopol from the Anglo-French fleet had to sink battleships and frigates. Their masts towered over the water, and submerged ships blocked the path of the enemy fleet, not allowing them to approach the Bay.
The monument is a harmonious combination of a high gray column and a huge double-headed eagle crowning it. His head is crowned with an Imperial crown, and in his beaks a wreath and an anchor. Laurel and oak leaves are woven into a wreath, which is firmly attached to the sea anchor.
