Irkutsk art Museum is named after V. Sukachev and is one of the most famous and important treasures of painting in all Siberia.
The name of Vladimir Sukachev was given to this Museum because it is on the basis of his collection gallery began its operation. At that time, he was the mayor and collected a collection for several decades of the 19th century.

Today Irkutsk Museum has several exhibition halls, which are located in historical mansions. In addition, the Museum has a separate estate with traditional wooden buildings and a Park for walking. Several rooms are in the process of reconstruction.
So, at the moment the Museum has 2 stone mansions and 2 estates, one of which is in the process of restoration. The main building was designed by architect D. Magidei it contains paintings relating to a wide time period (from 16 to 21 centuries) and different countries (dominated by Russian, Western European and Oriental art).
In total, the Museum can find about 22 thousand exhibits: it is not only painting, but also objects of applied art, graphics and sculpture. Of particular value is a collection of ancient monuments of cultures of the peoples of the Baikal region (so, this zoomorphic images that refer to the Neolithic, "Paleolithic Venus", etc.).
Also, it will be interesting for tourists to get acquainted with a rich collection of icons collected from all over Russia (the most represented are Moscow, Pskov and Novgorod icons, as well as works of Siberian icon painters). One of the most colorful parts of the exhibition is devoted to the art of 3 countries – Mongolia, China and Japan: it allows you to plunge into the ethnic characteristics of the peoples living there, and get acquainted with the objects made of bronze, enamel and porcelain.
