The center of the buildings of the Grand court was the Pokrovsky Cathedral (now Trinity) — the third largest after the assumption and Archangel cathedrals of the Moscow Kremlin. Date of his consecration is fixed in the liturgical collection of the first half of the XVI century library of the Trinity-Sergius Lavra.
The architecture of the temple is due to the orientation of masters Basil III on the main Shrine of the nearby Trinity-Sergius monastery-Church of the Holy Trinity. Exposed brick walls, vaults and Chapter of the Cathedral of intercession effectively contrasts with the white stone walls and pillars of the quadrangle, portals, architectural decor and the input of tabernacles, the white stone podklet with the pass gallery. The features of the composition and ornaments of the carvings decorating the Church are a wonderful example of combining the Italian decor and the early Moscow white stone carvings of the early XV century.
In the early seventeenth century, the Swedish diplomat Peter Petreius de Elizondo described the appearance of the intercession of the Church: "the Stones of it are painted different colors, one black, the other white and silver, the third yellow and gold; painted on each cross. All this is a beautiful view to the passing traffic of people."
The interior decoration of the temple was made in the XVI century, colorful, diverse in its narrative subjects frescoes, as well as Royal trophies — brought from the Novgorod and Tver cathedrals gates of the XIV century, installed in the Western and southern portals. The original iconostasis of the Cathedral was a stone altar barrier with frescoes. On top of it were table with icons of the Deesis tier. The stone throne was covered with silver-plated copper plates, carved canopy over it was gilded.
